Art for Outsiders: Manifesto

  1. ‘Art for Outsiders’ is ‘not’ ‘Outsider Art’. It is art created for & by those who feel like outsiders.

  2. The outside is no less valid that the inside.

  3. Whether you are an established or unrecognised artist, you can be part of this movement.

  4. A.F.O. encourages artists to exhibit outside of the White Cube.

  5. A.F.O. is both socially engaged and is artist driven.

  6. A.F.O. does not pander to art critics and elitist ideals.

  7. A.F.O. does not recognise a hierarchy based on celebrity but demands mutual respect amongst its artists.

  8. There is no specific medium, all practices are equally valid.

  9. A.F.O. does not tolerate racism, sexism, ableism, bigotry, insincerity, exploitation and elitism.

  10. A.F.O. encourages critical discourse that does not wish to harm others.

  11. A.F.O. celebrates change, difference and looks beyond what we are told is ‘Great Art’.

This is a ‘Cloch Cailleagh’, a ‘Hag Stone’. It is believed that if you look through the hole you can see beyond the ethereal wall into another world.

This is what I am offering you, a chance to look beyond the world that exists before you. A chance to see and experience Art as you have never done before. A chance to engage with Art without the restraints, barriers and exclusion of elitist ideals. Look through the stone and enter the world of ‘Art for Outsiders’ which is not ‘Outsider Art’ but a world where the Art, Artist & Viewer are equally important, acknowledging that one cannot exist without the other.

We only exist for a short time, so let’s not waste it on man-made debates, but enter the world where Art truly comes from, the world beyond ours ‘The Soul’…
